A really good summary on the seeds for building a top notch company. Netflix culture and processes are very similar hence I could relate and even agree with most of the suggestions here. I think the part for managers or even aspiring leaders is really worth a read. The one thing that stood out for me is the authors analogy at the end about 'information'How the general belief of information is power is counter intuitive. Instead information should be thought of as water. You don't entrap all of it in dams, instead you let it flow and it will give new life. In my short career I've seen both happen, and it's no doubt in my mind that a culture of secrecy breeds incompetence.

Well written book in a conversational and simple manner. Useful insights which are equally applicable to start-ups and established organizations.
I've worked with Khivi in the past. There's no question that he's a brilliant engineer, but what truly sets him apart is his ability and commitment to building a high performance culture. Whether you're part of an established company or a three person startup, this book offers great advice from someone who really knows what he's talking about.
As a former engineer, tech lead and engineering manager I have faced many of the same challenges as the author. The author lays out the full range of topics that one needs to think about in building a solid culture (in service of technology product development). Further, the author points out the choices that he/she made in various situations. Finally, the author lays down some redlines that a good development organization should not cross.
